Weight Training Programs

As a lover of both Kettlebell and standard (barbells/dumbbells) weight training programs, I find that the 2 disciplines lend themselves to each other. What I also like are simplistic yet effective training programs such as the 'Old school training style' thought up by the greats of the past.

Mike Mahler has written a superb article about Perry Rader's programs That are so basic yet extremely effective.

The main point about these 'weight training programs' are that they really test your discipline as they push you to your physical limit every time.

The bottom line is 'If you train hard enough they will work'

Mike Mahler talks about Rader's programs being based around the '20 rep' method.

Take an exercise you do for 10 reps and do it for 20. Extreme but effective!!

This is really hard brutal stuff, but if you're tough enough then you'll get extremely strong and fit in the process.

The article got me thinking about using kettlebells in place of traditional weights and with some of the programs from the article I think it would be possible, especially with the Clean and Jerk workout which is easily transferable to kettlebells.

Just take 2 kettlebells, clean it, jerk it place on the floor and repeat 20 times.

I think the programs won't lend themselves to kettlebell when squatting too well but could be used as alternate training programs for a change once in a while.
