The first thing that is neccesary when kettlebell training for sport is the movement patterns of your sport, can kettlebell training movement patterns be modified to your sport?
I do highland games as a second sport and immediately there is a carry over to this sport. I can swing the kettlebell between my legs and this imitates the weight over bar event. I can swing and turn with the kettlebell and this is similar to the weight for distance event.
Now, kettlebell training may not carry over to your specific sport so you may just use it as a form of condition for General Physical Preparedness (GPP) ,accumulation of training sessions or as a explosive power developer.
The first exercise that should be learned is the kettlebell swing, one handed and two handed. Take the kettlebell with both hands and stand upright (ensure neutral back position throughout). With slightly bent knees, lean forward and swing the kettlebell between your legs bending down even more so with your legs and drive the KB at arms length with power and vigour upto eye height. Relax momentarily at the top portion of the swing and under careful body tension allow the KB to return to the start position. So, from the first swing you immediately use the momentum from that to ignite the second swing and so on. I imagine this movement to be like trying to swing something upon to a high table in the easiest fashion in using your levers in the most bio-mechanically efficient way.
Once you have learned the two hands method you can progress onto using one hand.
So a workout using swings alone could look like this:
Two handed swings x 30 secs, rest 1 min and then repeat, complete 10 sets
Add 5 seconds on every 3rd workout. (If you are can do one handed swings alternate hands)
Do this every other day as a beginners program
Anyone could look at this workout and immediately think it's too simple to work, but it does and will bring a significant amount of physical fitness if you stick with it. It is basic but several other exercises will and can be added in due course.
So, get doing something as there is no secret to fitness you just have to do it.
