Strongman Style Kettlebell Press

Strongman Style Kettlebell Press

Using kettlebells and bands together can make an exercise so much more difficult due to the constant movement of the kettlebells, which in turn requires your core muscles to stabilize more and hence develops the area like no other.

This exercise is very similar to that seen in strongman competitions where two money safes are suspended from a bar and pressed overhead. I consider this to be not unlike the yoke walk for the upper body. Just look at how hard it is to lock out and stabilise at the top of the lift, it's a real challenge.

What happens in the strongman competitions is that some guys who have trained this can rep out no problem, but then you'll get another who can't even get as far as lock out with it. If you took 2 guys with equal seated pressing abilty the one with the most stabilised and strongest core will win hands down on this exercise.

The strongman style kettlebell press will challenge all people training for sports regardless of their discipline. You don't need to be a strongman to put this exercise in your routine, give it a go with about 50-60% of your 1 rep max (shoulder press) and you'll certainly notice that this is gonna be good for your core strength and power.

If you don't own bands then this can be easily done with ropes and disc weights if you don't own enough even sized kettlebells.
