Sandbags and Kettlebells
Josh Henkin from Sandbagfitnesssystems.com has posted a great video on youtube. In the video Josh takes a busy professional through his paces using sandbags and kettlebells.
There are some really interesting exercises in this video. The ones that caught my eye especially are the ones using cables suspended from the power rack. The use of suspended cables makes the athlete work harder due to instability. I personally use chains and bands suspended from the power rack for unstable push ups, band stompers and various core training exercises.
In the video Josh demonstrates great use of this style of training and puts his client through a gruelling workout with a minimal amount of time and gear
Exercises used:-
Suspended running leg curls (superb idea)
Two handed kettlebell swings
Sandbag - shoulder to squat to sidepress (great hybrid movement)
Suspended lunge with kettlebell (I love this one as it is a toughie made tougher by instability)
Suspended twisting push ups (a twist on the 300 exercise)
Pivoting snatches (great core/power movement reminds me of hammer throw training)
What I really love about this Old School style of training is that it's so easy to do and so cheap that there should be no need for expensive gym memberships.
Get a sand bag get a kettlebell and some ropes and hit the dust.
